The Boston Celtics beat the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. Now, this wouldn’t have been such a statement unless they had done it in the fashion that they did. Not only did the score 105 points against the stingy Cavaliers’ defense, but they also held All-Star LeBron James to just 16 points. Any critic could say that the best defensive team in the NBA should be able to do what they did. However, the leader of the Boston defense, as well as a massive scoring threat in the paint, Kevin Garnett, did not suit up. So not only did the C’s beat the Cavs by almost 10 points, they also beat LeBron and his team without Kevin Garnett. Oh yeah, not to mention, the Celtics were missing Rajon Rondo for a significant period of time due to an ankle injury.

Really Cleveland? If you still believe that you can beat us in the postseason, then you have clearly been compromised by your fanhood, and have let the passion for the game interfere with common sense. Your team was beaten by the C’s, without their best defensive player, and their point guard playing on one leg. That’s like a heavyweight boxer losing to a featherweight who has a broken left leg! Also, with the addition of Stephon Marbury and Mikki Moore, your Mo Williams and Booby Gibson will have to always be awake defensively, and your wimpy flopper Anderson Varjeo will have to flop about 20 times before he can significantly change the Celtics’ bench.

Moving on, the Celtics now know they’re the best in the east, a slight aberration vs. Orlando without KG, Rondo and Big Baby doesn’t make a difference, and can focus on being the NBA’s best. The Lakers clearly showed Boston that they were better, beating us in L.A. AND in Boston. Sure there were some controversial calls, but the Lakers earned the W in both cases. However, Mikki Moore would have been great for keeping the C’s big men out of further foul trouble (and KG may not have fouled out), while Stephon Marbury would have exhausted Jordan Farmar or Derrick Fisher, allowing Rondo to toy with either. The Celtics will be better come finals time, so L.A., get on your feet.

The Celtics signed center Mikki Moore to a 10-day contract, and thank goodness for that. All season they have lost tough games, most notably against the Cavaliers and Lakers, due to a lack of inside presence when either Kevin Garnett or Kendrick Perkins were sitting. This problem became quite apparent when a questionable foul call against the Lakers gave him his 6th, which cost him the last 5 minutes of regulation. The Lakers were able to comeback in that time, as Pao Gasol and Lamar Odom were constantly able to get to the rim. Neither Glen Davis or Leon Powe were able to stop Lamar due to his quickness. Also, Pao Gasol was having a ball due to his size advantage. The lack of size in the middle cost the Celtics the game, and possibly home court advantage in the Finals. Mikki Moore will help the Celtics fill that void, playing a similar role to P.J. Brown last season. He will be called upon to play some minutes towards the end of the 3rd quarter or beginning of the 4th, and will be a huge boost defensively. He is a solid veteran player, who knows how to play in this league.

In my opinion, this was a huge sign for the Celtics, but it came too late. They needed Moore well before the All-Star break, and lost 2-3 game due to a lack of what could have been his presence. However, fact of the matter is that he has been signed, and now the Celtics can focus on possibly coming to terms with Stephon Marbury, or a 1-guard who can serve as a backup to Rajon Rondo
