Rajon Rondo

Rajon Rondo has proved himself to be an elite point guard in this league. Period. His mid-range jump shot and even his three pointers are developing, and with every game you can see his confidence building. There is no other point guard in the league who has such an impact on his team. It seems like whenever the Celts lose a game, it’s because Rajon Rondo had an off-day. Rondo is no longer just a random point guard, now he’s the kid who not only is the difference between a win and a loss, but he is also the glue between the big three, meaning he is the big “fourth.” If his jump shot continues to develop, can you imagine any team trying to stop the Celtics?! Paul Pierce can stretch the defense with his three-point shot, and also is great at driving to the hoop. Ray Allen can also stretch the defense with his killer three, and Kevin Garnett adds his jump shot and post up abilities. Then, throw in Kendrick Perkins’ developing offense, Leon Powe’s rebounding ability or Glen Davis’ developing mid-range shot, and you have a monstrous offensive juggernaut. Now, as if a defense could handle anything else, Rajon Rondo’s driving ability and now his MIDRANGE ability will be killer. What’s scarier for opposing teams, Rondo will just keep gettin’ better.

I do agree that Rondo has developed into a very good point guard with the ability to break down defenses and get to the rim. He has improved his defense and his midrange game as well.

I can, however, name at least 3-point guards who are playing better and who mean more to their team. Chris Paul, Jameer Nelson, Devin Harris, and Deron Williams. I would even add Chauncey Billups to that list. (keeping in mind nash is off the list, not because of his lack of importance but because a team around him is necessary for him to flourish).

The Boston Celtics need rajon rondo but in terms of sheer impact the absence of CP3 would destroy the hornets. The same can be said for Deron Williams. Jameer Nelson has emerged as the driving force for his Orlando team (evidenced by their sound win over LA recently, due to his clutch shooting and decision making). Devin Harris’s team isn’t very good but he is a better point guard than Rondo. (21 pts and 6 assists) v. (10 and 8 for rondo). Rondo is not there yet, but he may get there.

    • i agree that CP3 does have a huge impact on his team and probably even greater than Rondo AT THIS POINT, but when Paul was just a 2nd year player, he wasn’t putting up the same numbers Rondo has been. I think that Rondo has an extremely bright future, and is comparable to paul.

  3. Rondo is a beast. He is putting up some ridiculous numbers and is becoming a nightmare to guard. If he stays aggressive when players leave him open his game will only expand. Scouting reports are slowly starting to change on him but opposing players are still told it is better to give him the jumper.

I really like the addition of Marbury to the Celts. When he is motivated he is a proven scorer and distributor in this league. He can be a solid back up point guard to rondo. He can break down defenses with his ability to get to the hoop and he can stretch defenses with his outside shot (more refined than rondos at this point). Great idea and a very small gamble. They aren’t paying him very much.

    • Marbury was a great addition for many reasons. First off, Eddie House can now play his natural position of a 2-guard and be more of a shooter, like he is, and he won’t have to handle the ball as much. Also, he doesn’t let defenses rest when rondo’s out.. and a lot of the time he’ll be playing against backup point guards. Marbury is an all-star and will have his way with opposing teams.
